Playlists #160 & #161
Back with another twofer this week. Twice as much to make up for the lack of a playlist last week.
I've been listening to the new CRIMEAPPLE steadily but haven't included any tracks here. That changes today.
This Flee/Muggs song starts, and I didn't think I needed anyone but Flee on the track. But then Ghostface jumps in with the fly verse!?!?! And I thought it was perfect...but right after there was a Roc Marci verse too.. like WTF!?!?! Flee, Ghost, Roc...FOH.
While CRIME and Flee get regular play round these parts, Bub Styles is a less familiar face. However, he is getting better & Outerwear SZN might be my favorite release of his. He is steadily growing into his style, deftly utilizing his unmistakable raspy voice in the process. This was the single but not sure if its my fav of the tape yet.
Another regular over the past year are the Grand Nationxl Wolfpack. This one is from Eastshore Highway - Brookfield Duece, Mani Draper, and DJ D Sharp - also features Kevin Allen.
Finally we have another one from Snoop, who has been all over these lists lately. Channeling the Bay over a Mekanix beat, he's got "Four 15s with the Zap in my lap" and a cameo from Mistah FAB (and Unc!) in the video.
For the next playlist, we start off with 79rs Gang. I'm late to this album, but it is spectacular. Pulling from Mardi Gras Indian music, bounce, brass, and hip-hop, they create a supremely unique sound. "Gumbo" seems like the easy metaphor for this so sure, use that. Just remember, 79rs are, indeed, bout to blow.
Juan Wauters album is also very good, and “Estas Escuchando” stands out to me. The album does a nice job of mixing in the music tracks with recordings of ambient sounds, conversations, etc.
Digging this YUNGMORPHEUS guy so far. Frankly I kinda like anyone that raps about growing weed?
Finally, this week was 5/10 day so gotta bump the classics. In addition to Sideshow (Remix), here is a video of Fabby freestyling on Sway's show about the Dubs. Real Town Shit.
