Playlists #168 & #169
Back again with a double edition this week. Didn't publish last week due to the holiday weekend. I was out doing shit, mayne! Game at the old ball yard, cookouts on the grill, etc. But the whole time I was keeping an ear out for all the dopest tunes to share with you.
Playlist #168 starts out with two songs from some of my favorite guys in the NYC underground scene: FastLife, Bub Styles and UFO Fev. All three have been featured here before, and these new tracks don't disappoint.
Was reading the anniversary blog with Hi-Tek about his first album, and he revealed that "Keep Goin'" was supposed to be on that album but was cut because the label thought Snoop was too big an artist for him to be working with. Wild shit. The final edition ended up with a Kool G Rap verse, so maybe a win after all?
Finally we have Bfb. "Free Joe Exotic" was proly the best song of 2020, and Da Packman is back with the full length.
This brings us to Playlist #169. First off is Common, who was here a couple weeks back with the Damian Marley remix. This is vintage Common - skilled rap music with blood, sweat, and tears.
Two more OGs, Daddy-O & Ruste Juxx, team up on the next joint. The two detail how they picked up knowledge from the streets in their youth.
Despite what I said in the above tweet, the Evidence album is excellent. A very personal piece of art, I expect to listen to this a lot more.
Bub Styles is back again this week with another banger, and finally there's this "Juicy" track, which my understanding is that it predates the Biggie version. Nice litle find from the internet.
That’s it for now.
