Playlists #191 & #192
Doing the double again this week, last week was the holiday so didn’t post.
Playlist #191 starts off with Benji., who made an excellent album this year. Soulful, joyous, and full of energy, "East Side Bounce" is a good representation of the album as a whole. Benji. spends the song riding around and realizing life is too good!
Next up is Homeboy Sandman with the animal bars. IDK man, dude can rap! Also, peanut M&Ms should be the default.
Speaking of guys who can rap, 38 Spesh comes hard over the classic Raekwon beat.
The G Perico album kinda got lost in the mix when it came out, but resurfaced as I've been trying to complete my best of 2021 playlist. While this isn't the song that's gonna make it, this Big Tymers flip does the thing.
Finally, peace to Drakeo the Ruler. LA lost one of their most creative artists last week, and its gonna leave a void.
Starting off #192 with Amine, who's TWOPOINTFIVE has him pushing with faster paced BMPs. "Charmander" is a great example of this, with a chipmunk voice sample and an underlying EDM beat.
“Animalz” is the newest single from the Big Boy/Sleepy Brown collaboration, and its as fun and catchy as the rest.
"Grey Skies" by CRIMEAPPLE and DJ Muggs is gonna make it to the best of playlist this year. While it hadn't been featured on any weekly list yet, it sticks out as my favorite of CRIME's over four albums he released this year. "Ai-Yi-Yi!"
Bruiser Brigade was one of the best surprises of 2021, and they all show out on this Alchemist track. Bruiser Wolf is my favorite, who's yours?
#192 wraps up with more Drakeo songs. It's sad when we lose such a talented and beloved member of the music community. But also we lose too many members of our local communities to violence, as Oakland has in 2021, and want to make sure we remember them as much as the famous artists. So also peace to Devani Aleman Sanchez and the 133 others killed this year.
