Playlists #193 & #194
Back with the playlists. First ones of 2022 even. Here's to another year of music 🍻.
Lost another Bay legend, Traximillion. Much has been said, but what is undeniable is that he had so much influence of the hyphy sound, and subsequently the Bay Area rap culture. Influence that is recognizable even today, almost two decades after the sounds first started to pop.
Mistah FAB is back with a second edition of his 4506 tape. "All Net" steps into the space the "Check Ball" occupied last year, we'll see if this ends up being my most listened to song of 2022.
Droog is back with a strong effort on Space Bar. Took me a couple weeks to get into this, "Yuri" is an early standout with a electric guitar loop and boastful rhymes; YOD staying on brand here.
Droog's partner in Dump YOD, Tha God Fahim, is making more and more appearances on these playlist, his flows might be unmatched right now. I'd have to rank him first in the Fahim/Droog/Mach triangle.
Not much to say about this Eye Q song, just that it fuckin' jams dude.
Finally we have 79er Gang in honor of 12th Night/Epiphany Day. Its officially Carnival season, ya'll. 45 days till Mardi Gras.
ALC and Boldy dropped another tape at the end of 2021, and since I was busy putting together my best of playlist, I didn't bump it too much. Their formula keeps working here.
Like Bub Styles, who features on this song, Pounds has been growing on me for a while now. T.O.N.Y. 2 might be his strongest project to date.
This Babyxsosa song came out a while ago and I missed it. But then there was a video drop and it came across my radar and now yours.
4K is up next with "Chicken Adobo", a mellow track about growing up in Oakland and "trying to make it in America".
I noticed that this old Lions album is finally on Spotify. This was the one that got me into them and is still my fav. Glad I get to listen without digging for a CD-R somewhere in the closet.
Its Friday friends, turn the music up!
